Golden Globe Nominations; Kung Fu, Ang Lee, ZhangZiYi, etc.

Golden Globe Nominations were just released and it's interesting to see who's on the list! Of note, I did watch "Brokeback Mountain" yesterday @ The Grove (after it won both the L.A. and N.Y. film critics award for best picture of the year), and currently it leads the nominations in The Golden Globe. I thought the movie was good and it was moving, but not really the best movie of the year, but hats off to chinese director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) for being nominated for Best Director. My gut feeling is that Brokeback will win best picture of the year and Ang Lee will win Best Director, but we shall see. My predictions are however, different from my opinions and personally my favorite movie of the year is "Shopgirl"; the melancholy movie about Mirabelle Buttersfield and finding love. I also loved "Crash"; the controversial movie about racial discrimination that opened earlier in the year followed by HK's "Kung Fu Hustle". It was actually quite a surprise to learn that the critically acclaimed movie "Perhaps Love" now playing in HK was not nominated for "Best Foreign Film", but it nice to know that Stephen Chow has finally earned himself a nod for "Best Foreign Movie". Other things to note is that I have been waiting forever to watch "The Squid and The Whale", but have failed for some strange reason to find company. Everyone keeps on thinking that it really is about a squid and a whale and I keep on having to explain that it's not and I would still like to catch "Memoirs of a Geisha", the upcoming "Match Point" and "The Family Stone".
